Hamby VFD was established in 1976. Hamby VFD serves parts of 4 counties; Taylor, Shackelford, Jones, and Callahan. We provide mutual aid for Abilene Fire, Shackelford County VFD, Hawley VFD, Clyde VFD and the Texas Forest Service. We are committed to serving others to the best of our ability. We are located approximately 6 miles from Abilene on Highway 351 in the small community of Hamby in Taylor County Texas. We respond to fire and rescue 911 calls within some 225 square miles of our station. Our meetings are held on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. at the fire station.

All members of the Hamby VFD are volunteers. Approximately 85 - 90 % of the fire fighting resources in the West Central Texas region are volunteers. Our department depends on donations from individuals to help offset the high cost of fuel, repairs and other fire department related expenses. When a 911 call is received at one of 4 dispatch centers, members of Hamby VFD will make every effort to come to your assistance safely and to assist with your 911 emergency, all free of charge. Our members are caring individuals with a goal to help eliminate pain and suffering and help protect your valuable property.

HELP US FIND YOU

When you have an emergency, time is critical! Rural areas make addresses hard to find. Please make sure that your address is clearly posted on both sides of your mail box, and on your fence line. These letters need to be reflective and large enough that they can be seen at night from at least 50 feet away.

HOW TO REACH US

For a routine NON EMERGENCY call, the station number is 325-548-2408. For all EMERGENCY CALLS, dial 911. Be sure to give specific directions to the dispatcher as to why you need us to respond, and directions to where help is needed. E-MAIL: hambyfd@taylortel.net To report a CONTROL BURN that you are planning to do, please e-mail us with the details, or call your local Sheriff's Office and have them relay the information to us. Please DO NOT burn until you have notified our fire department and your local sheriff's department.

Fuel Costs:

Our fuel costs us just as much as yours does. We must rely on your donations to help defray the cost of our operation. Not only do our expenses include fuel costs, but keeping the trucks in good operating order. What if you called 911 and no one came to your rescue because we were out of fuel or because a truck isn’t drivable?
